DAY ONE OF OUR EXPERIMENT

September 27, 2017

Today we started to brainstorm ideas for our project that was assigned to us on September 22nd.

The project we were assigned was a MadLibs projects where we were given four groups and we had to select a single word from each of the categories.

The four categories included: Sensor, Adjective, Material, Actuator. The four words we chose were: Light, Floaty, Water, and Speaker.

So for today, we met in the Digital Futures lab and discussed in a open circle what we would like to do based on what the project entailed. We came up with some great ideas and found some great external links to get our creative minds working in the right direction.

Some of the YouTube videos we watched to gain inspiration on a specific direction to go:

Some of the ideas we came up with:

  1. external light (ex: daylight)
  2. LED light – to create different songs
  3. Low light + high light to play with the volume or frequency of the speaker volume
  4. Use of water to sensor the light / liquid to control the sensor

The two bolded ideas were ones the group liked the most!

Some of the concepts we came up with:

  1. Speaker under the water or on top
  2. Water affected by the vibration of the speaker – by the water being in a plastic cup and sitting on top of the speaker

During us chatting, brainstorming and thinking out loud techniques we complied three sketches that visually demonstrated our concepts and favourite ideas. Savaya also took notes of what we discussed so everything was written down and nothing was forgotten.

Here are the sketches of our ideas:

We also talked about the materials we would need to source and use for the project:

  1. Speaker – Savaya’s Bose speaker  // Savaya
  2. Plastic water container – to put on top of the speaker // Yiyi
  3. Water
  4. Dye – probably food dye
  5. Floaty item – unsure right now

We assigned each of us a product to get before our next meeting on Tuesday October 3, 2017.

End of day one.

Thanks!
