One of the many reasons I am so proud to be associated with OCAD University is the strength of its commitment to indigenous culture and to providing opportunities for aboriginal students. This week kicks off with the annual gathering of OCAD U’s Aboriginal Education Council (AEC), a remarkably accomplished group of cultural creators and leaders from across the country, who provide us with insight and guidance. On Tuesday, Sept.16 members of the AEC will join us for the annual Indigenous Visual Culture Symposium (a.m.), Pow Wow and Graduation Celebration in Butterfield Park in the afternoon.
Also on my agenda and to-do list this week:
- OCAD U has a new website — I’m guessing you noticed this! — and we still have a bit of work to do to fine tune it. Between meetings, I’ll be busy updating and testing sections to ensure you can get the information you need.
- The Ontario Universities Fair takes place this weekend: Friday, Sept.19-Sunday, Sept.21. I’ll be there with the team talking to high school students and their families about the opportunities at OCAD University. Here’s some scenes from last year’s Fair:
