By now you’ve probably heard that we’re about to commence the next phase of the Creative City Campus project: a massive renovation of OCAD U’s Fabrication studios — our metal, wood and plastics studios, as well as rapid prototyping and associated areas, such as the tool loans department.
The renovation also includes the Ada Slaight studios in Drawing & Painting. These two major undertakings are happening concurrently through the summer months, with Drawing & Painting wrapping up in time for the Fall term. The Fabrication studios will continue being remodelled through the fall term, and reopen for the Winter 2020 academic term.
This is super exciting stuff — these studios haven’t seen significant remodelling or space improvements in decades, and are showing their age. But all of us here in the senior leadership team are also incredibly aware of our community’s concerns, which run the gamut from course availability, to construction noise, to work space availability to equipment and process access.
OCAD U’s Campus Planning & Projects Team has been working with our technicians and studio management staff through a massive amount of planning and logistics over many, many months. There are still logistical bits being finalized, which is typical of a project of this magnitude, but you have the opportunity to meet with the people on the ground to get your questions answered, through a series of information sessions and pop-up chats.
Information Sessions (MCA 258, George Reid House):
- February 20, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- February 26, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- February 26, 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Learning Zone
- March 5 and 6, 12 to 2 p.m. in the main lobby at 100 McCaul St.
If for some reason you can’t attend any of these events, you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your questions.
