Meet a 2021 Peer Mentor:

My name is Bukhtavar Ashraf (she/her), but you can call me Booky! I’m currently going into my second year in Environmental Design: Interior Design specialization. This is going to be my first time being a Peer Mentor! I was a Student Mentee in 2020, which is what inspired me to become a Mentor! I am currently in Toronto, Canada. I’m not in the downtown area, but OCAD U is just a drive away!

I mainly work with acrylic paint but I also sketch/draw. This program has made me work with digital mediums for a bunch of assignments, so I’m a little more focused on that now. It has been really fun learning the software and creating living spaces digitally. The skill I want to develop is my skill with these digital softwares. I also want to improve my general skill with painting and sketching! My goal is to use this summer to practice a bit of everything.

I hope that soon life goes back to normal as vaccines have become available and numbers for COVID cases have been going down. I do see that social distancing precautions and the masks would stay in place for everyone’s safety. So with these precautions in place, I hope in-person learning opens up for fall.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at the school and to be able to actually be in the building! I hope once we are able to go back to a classroom setting, that we can all get to know each other better!
