Faith Achu, first-year Illustration

“Hey, my name is Faith Achu (she/her) and I’m a first-year student in the illustration program. Although I have lived in Toronto, Ontario all my life, downtown is still very new to me but I am beginning to enjoy it the more I travel to and from school.

My art is greatly influenced by surrealism. I like to imply dreamlike elements and symbolism into the work I create. I have always been fascinated by the human mind and often question how art can help us understand and explain the conscious and subconscious minds. I love working with both digital and traditional applications and often have trouble deciding which medium to work with when starting a new project. My work also varies from a cartoonish, semi-realistic style to a more focused study on topics and themes that interest me. This can include but is not limited to discussions and ideas surrounding both social and environmental issues.

While I continue to grow into my art style and identity, I look forward to establishing a unique way to brand my work. Like how the artists I look up to have a distinctive style and or recognizable traits to their work and overall brand. In the future, I hope to use my artworks to inspire others. I also want to provide a new outlook on the issues revolving around our ever-changing world and create a surreal experience using the many wonders of the mind.”
