Shared Family
“Shared Family” by Annu Salminen features a series of images where the camera is utilized to represent the perspectives of different family members, ranging from her youngest son to the photographer herself. What results is something of a stylized family portrait, gained through various viewfinders and lenses.
In her own words:
“… I had a feeling that adults and kids live somehow in different time zones: energetic kids move so quickly and we adults are so slow. I started to use flashes to get photos of kids playing.
During this project I realized I like the toy camera shots because they capture the spirit of our kid’s world, their home, their family. I know our worlds are different, but I tend to forget it. Comparison of our pictures reminds me of the fact that my family is not just my family. It is our family.”
