WORKSHOPS: JAN 7 – JAN 14

  •  Polymers in Action: Art Making with Waste Plastic

Date: Wednesday January 14th, 2015  OR Saturday January 17th, 2015

All students and faculty are invited to take part in the following workshops— “Polymers in Action: Art Making with Waste Plastic”. They are an integral part of my graduate research project on the creative and art-making and community building possibilities that can be achieved when using recyclable plastic materials as the primary medium. The aim is to engage with important environmental issues regarding waste plastics and ethical disposal methods.

A presentation and critical discussion about environmental stewardship through art-making will allow participants to learn about similar existing artistic practices that can then be adapted into the practical workshop section. Feedback and idea sharing will be extremely valuable to this platform and both are encouraged to enrich the experience for all involved.

All artists and makers who attend these sessions may be invited to interview prior to and following the events.

An online community of socially and environmentally conscious art-makers will be established with interested attendees, and all work produced during this investigation will be exhibited on a website, to be launched in March 2015.

You can sign up to attend using the following links—

  • Start Your Professional Practice Now 2015

Financial Aid & Awards, Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, and Alumni Relations

Dates: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 8:30 AM Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 4:30 PM (EST)

We’re excited to share with you details about the fourth annual Start Your Professional Practice Now 2015!; a free series of professional practice events for OCAD U students featuring practicing alumni artists/designers, and inspiring guest speakers.

This year’s theme is “Creating. Financing. Community.” and is programmed over two days; one day with content specific to art students and one day for design students. Students come to engage with alumni and peers in the sharing of real-life experiences and practical skills in the journey of becoming an artist and/or designer. Sessions will include candid conversations with alumni who are working in the creative sector, including Wil Kucey (BFA, C&CP, 2005) and Yousuf Afridi (BDes, GRPH, 2008). Students will leave inspired to find a space to create, learn ways to finance a creative career and build a community toward a fulfilling creative career.

Refreshments are provided. Seating is limited and offered first-come, first-served based on RSVPs received at www.ocadu.ca/startyourpractice.

Presented by Financial Aid & Awards, Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers, and Alumni Relations. Supported by RBC Emerging Artists Project.

“Start Your Professional Practice Now brings together the best creative business concepts from engaging guest speakers, practicing alumni and entrepreneurial educators. As inspiring as it is informative, it’s a must-do event for every OCAD U emerging artist and designer.” –President Sara Diamond.

If you’d like more information for your classroom or colleagues, please let me know. For Faculty, I’m also available to share this information via a brief 5 minute in-classroom announcement and will follow up with you soon. Thank you!

Best,

Diana
