I hope that you have now all received the packages for the 2019 scholarship program. There were a number of factors that contributed to the severe delay, and although they were mostly beyond my control, I am already planning changes for next year to help ensure that the packages arrive at the start of the academic year. One option is to send the full package digitally, rather than through snail mail. If this is something you be interested in, please let me know.
For this year, the nomination period is now open. It is meant to close on April 1 but if you feel you will need more time to select a candidate due to the delay in receiving the package, please let me know.
When you are ready to submit your nomination, remember that you only need to send me the student’s name and email address. I will contact the student to obtain all the additional required information. If you have collected documents (e.g., resume, transcript) from your candidate, please be sure to obtain explicit permission from the candidate to share those documents with Esri Canada before sending them to me.
If you are subscribed to the Higher Education listserv, you should have seen the announcement I sent out last week about the Esri Young Scholars Award competition. It is unfortunate that the timing of the competition, and its name, is so similar to the GIS Scholarship program. I know that can cause some confusion so I have summarized the key differences in the table below. Information about both programs is available in the scholars portal,https://scholars.esri.ca/.
