Please Join us on Friday December 13th for the Launch of the Virtual Platform for Indigenous Art and Wapatah End of the Year Celebration!
Wapatah: Centre for Indigenous Visual Knowledge and Onsite Gallery would like to invite you to the upcoming Launch of the Virtual Platform for Indigenous Art on Friday December 13th 2019, 2:30pm-5:30pm at OCAD’s Onsite Gallery, 199 Richmond Street West.
Join us for the celebration of the Virtual Platform for Indigenous Art (VPIA) prototype launch. The VPIA is a custom digital platform designed to facilitate Indigenous access and contributions to Indigenous artworks in museum and gallery collections around the world. Using a wiki-style approach, the VPIA allows institutional artwork records to be transformed into living documents that integrate Indigenous knowledge, language, and protocols.
Following a knowledge crowdsourcing model popularized by Wikipedia, this free public event will bring together artists, scholars, and digital developers in an edit-a-thon to begin populating content and protocols within the VPIA system. It will introduce and explain the prototype VPIA, showcase our project milestones, and invite participants to contribute their knowledge of artworks through on-site engagement with the platform.
Electronic music artist Geronimo Inutiq will DJ the event with a multimedia show, bringing his signature blend of Arctic and urban style.
This free event is facilitated as part of the VPIA project workshop series and in collaboration with Onsite Gallery’s public event program for ᐊᕙᑖᓂᑦ ᑕᒪᐃᓐᓂᑦ ᓄᓇᑐᐃᓐᓇᓂᑦ /Among All These Tundras exhibition.
We look forward to your participation!
