The f/6 Collective is a dedicated group of IBPOC Photography students who have gathered regularly in 2023 to share work, experiences and their voices. 
Together, they have created the exhibition Sacred Spaces which addresses spaces or places (whether physical, emotional, familial, political and/or geographical)  that create a sense of resonance, reverence or provocation. 
Come celebrate their work and expressions on May 19th, 4-6pm, in the Ada Slaight gallery, 2nd floor, 100 McCaul.
 
A tremendous sense of gratitude goes out to ODESI, who have generously supported this exhibition. Thank you!

The f/6 Collective (OCADU’s IBPOC Photo Club) and the Photo Department are organizing an artist talk with Yasin Osman on March 29, 5-6pm,  113 McCaul (MCC), room 516.

Yasin Osman is an award-winning photographer and cartoonist for The New Yorker. Aside from drawing and taking photos the most important thing to Yasin is a photo mentorship program he started in 2015 called Shoot For Peace. The program was initially created to combat the increasing violence in Toronto and to offer an alternative option for youth wanting to pursue art. Since its inception the program has provided over a hundred youth with jobs, cameras and skills of lasting value. Shoot for Peace has also been recognized internationally by Buzzfeed, Upworthyand CNN. Through his photography Yasin has been recognized by the National Geographic and has shot campaigns for brands such as Nike, Google and The Toronto Raptors.

Landscape Time and Place

April will speak about three bodies of work that explore the ideas of long-term observation and recording. Through her work in both photography and video she explores notions of the natural environment and notions of our relationship to green spaces.

As a lens-based artist and teacher, April has mined the distinctions between personal and public sites through film, video, photography, and installation. A dedicated environmentalist she is interested in our relationship to wilderness in urban culture, land stewardship, and sustainability.

Learn more about Brendan George Ko:

Brendan George Ko is a visual storyteller that works in photography, video, installation, text, and sound. His work is about conveying a sense of experience through storytelling, and he describes the image as supplementary to the story it represents. Ko breaks traditional delineations in the medium by blurring the spaces between commercial, fine-art and documentary/photojournalistic works.  Ko received his BFA from OCAD in 2010 where he majored in Photography, and practiced sculpture and curation. During his time in the Masters in Visual Arts program at the University of Toronto his practice shifted to include video and sound.

 

Ko has been active as a freelance photographer since he was an Undergraduate student. In addition to his editorial photography- which has appeared in numerous publications such as The New Yorker, New York Times, Vogue and Flux magazines, to name a few, he maintains an active artistic practice. His most recent solo exhibitions were Moemoea at the CONTACT Gallery and We Soon Be Nigh! At LE Gallery.

2022 RBC Emerging Artist Residency Program at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa

This is a fully funded program that provides emerging artists with studio space and production support within the vibrant setting of the RMG. We pay a residency fee of $2000 to support production, materials, travel, and installation costs, as well as a $3500 artist fee. The 12-week residency culminates in a five-week solo exhibition in Gallery A, a 700sq. ft gallery within the RMG, and is accompanied by numerous opportunities for professional development.

We are looking for artists under the age of 35 who will thrive as artists-in-residence with bold ideas, innovative vision, and who are interested in making meaningful connections with our visitors and community.
