“Enter the Void” is a calligraphic project created by Russian designer, Pokras Lampas for the biggest Nike flagship store in Europe. Pokras Lampas is “one of the most distinguished representatives of contemporary calligraphy in the world. He started creating graffiti in 2008 and shortly after was inspired by the ‘Calligraffiti’ movement. Later, Pokras Lampas was invited to become an official Calligraffiti ambassador whilst working on his self-developed ‘Calligrafuturism’ style and technique. He is particularly involved in street art projects, exhibitions and other related projects since 2013 and regularly works with major Russian and international brands. Recently, Pokras Lampas started to collaborate with high fashion brands and developed a menswear collection”(Opera Gallery).
The concept of this project is 3 x 3 x 3 meters art installation which almost like takes you inside itself creating a 3-dimensions illusion. It all is based on the fluorescent calligraphy and transparent ‘walls’.
This object is the winner of “Visioners of the Future” Nike contest.
This piece has a lot of energy to it because of all the expressive lines, brushstroke’s texture and paint splashes. Even though it’s a 2D piece it creates volume because of interconnection between all 3 planes. It’s hard to read these calligraphic elements therefore the writings create some sort of a background pattern on the transparent walls which works with the idea of void illusion. Color contrast between black and bright blue adds on to the whole composition.
