Meet a 2021 Peer Mentor:

My name is Liz Adler (she/her) and I’m third-year Drawing & Painting: Digital Painting & Expanded Animation. This is my first year as a Peer Mentor. I’m based on the border of North York and Scarborough, in Toronto and I like to create work with some level of silliness; gestural paintings, and narrative work about women (and other creatures). I would really love to develop my design skills in order to make better illustrations, so I’m thinking about taking a minor in Illustration to push these skills.

The biggest change about working and learning during COVID-19, for me, has been a stronger emphasis on a home studio space, and a more balanced relationship with my alone time. I had to improve at getting focused, taking breaks and finding people to study with. I think working in this way has actually better prepared me for a future as an independent animator/contractor.

I am most looking forward to meeting first-year students and offering all the support I can! Coming to OCAD U has definitely been a journey for me, I look forward to seeing you through yours. On a more personal basis: collaborating with animators/musicians/illustrators when we can mingle a little more on campus, and going to a giant picnic with all my friends once we are all vaccinated.
