Jason Mendiola, Sculpture/Installation

Meet a 2021 Peer Mentor:

Hello everyone! My name is Jason Mendiola (he/him). I am going into my second year with a major in Sculpture/Installation. This will be my first year as a Peer Mentor and I am excited to take this opportunity to help new student mentees where I can and most importantly learn from them as well! I currently live in Scarborough, Ontario and have pretty much lived here all my life.

I am an interdisciplinary artist and I love experimenting with different mediums. Many of my previous works are kinetic sculptures, however I also enjoy painting and sound design. I am interested in elevating objects and spaces by engaging with perception and materiality. One artist who has inspired me is www.instagram.com/@studiozimoun who works within the realm of sonic arts and creates kinetic installations that produce sound.

As a student I look forward to taking classes that broaden my streams of thought. Even if these concepts or ideas don’t tie into the work that I choose to make at the moment, I think it is important to be aware of current and past events in order to inform the future. I look forward to meeting you all in person! Take care!
