Emerald Repard-Denniston, Drawing & Painting

Emerald Repard-Denniston, Drawing & Painting

“Hi, I am Emerald Repard-Denniston (she/her). I’m in fourth-year Drawing & Painting and currently live in Toronto, Ontario.

My current art practice revolves around contemporary figurative work in drawing and painting. My whole life I’ve been questioning my cultural identity, sexual identity, and gender identity. I try to decolonize my mind and space through recognition and reconciliation in my lived experiences. I’m very interested in cultural representation, political and social issues, gender exploration, queer artists, feminist theories, and identity work. Through my practice and medium, I try to incorporate, represent and contextualize issues within the contemporary and social world.

The skills I want to develop are performance art and video work. My practice is always evolving, changing, and growing. Learning and creating in a post-covid world is still going to be a journey of trying to decolonize myself. I’m most looking forward to traveling after graduation and hopefully doing an artist residency in China.”
