“My name is Jamilah Lambert (she/her), and I am a first-year student in the Illustration program and currently live in Toronto, Ontario. I moved here a few months ago from Mississauga and am really enjoying getting to know the city.
My artwork is solely based on my feelings and desires, and I draw or paint anything that speaks to me, or I think would look cool on my wall. I really enjoy making colourful pieces. When I was younger, I would draw a rainbow in everything I made and now when I create—though I do not draw a literal rainbow—I always make sure to add a variety of colours. I really enjoy creating art in spontaneous realism style, realistic drawings of people with unnatural, bright colours. My favourite mediums to use are acrylic paint, watercolour pencil crayons, oil pastels and I also enjoy creating digital art.
As I continue to study here at OCAD U, I hope to learn more about human anatomy. I really enjoy drawing different fight and dance poses, but I’m not the best at it, so I mostly stick with faces. I would also like to further my digital art skills as I feel like I have a lot more to learn.
I’m hoping that in a post-COVID-19 world I can be more social and collaborate with my peers. I think creating art in a social setting around like-minded individuals will help my creativity and passion for art to grow. In the future, I am most looking forward to discovering my own style and graduating with more talent and enthusiasm for my craft.”
