Ginette Legaré: By Hook or by Crook

 September 4 – October 11, 2014

Opening reception Thursday September 11 from 6 to 9pm

Ginette Legaré’s recent mixed-media works continue her exploration of one’s relationships with surrounding objects, whether these are images, texts, or things. Her interest revolves around how such objects can reinsert themselves into the world as abstractions and as hints of what was once missed or taken for granted– a re-enactment that redeems the partly hidden from obscurity, like a brief insight momentarily lost and recaptured. Thus, Legaré’s work searches for new links in the ‘given’, using an ‘already available’ visual vocabulary– a line, a gap, a solid, a space– to question, or find, the visible that seems inherently hidden.

Legaré was born in Québec City and now lives and works in Toronto. She earned a BFA from Laval University and an MFA from York University. Her works have been exhibited in numerous solo, duo and group exhibitions throughout Canada, and in France, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Japan, and the United States. She is an an associate professor at the Ontario College of Art & Design University, where she served one term as Chair of the Sculpture/Installation Program, Ginette Legaré has also taught at York University and in the Sheridan Institute/University of Toronto Collaborative Art and Art History program. Ginette Legaré’s work is featured in public and private collections in Canada and internationally.
