“EXPLORE CANADA FROM A TO Z”
1. Organiser: The Embassy and Consulate General of Canada in Vietnam
2. Eligibility: Students in Vietnam: Vietnamese students aged 15 to 17 (born 1997 – 1999) and currently residing in Vietnam at the time of entry.
Students in Canada: Vietnamese students aged 15 to 20 (born 1994 – 1999) and currently studying at high schools or post-secondary institutions in Canada at the time of entry.
1st prize: The student from Vietnam will be rewarded a three-week Canada study tour in English or French. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD 2,000 and an internship opportunity in Vietnam.
2nd prize: The student from Vietnam will be rewarded a two-week Canada study tour in English or French. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD 1,000.
3rd prize: The student from Vietnam will be rewarded a one-week Canada study tour in English or French. Tuition fee, return air ticket to Canada, accommodation, and meals will be covered. The student from Canada will receive a scholarship of CAD 500.
* The content of the programs in Canada will be determined based on the levels and interest of the winners.
In addition, there will be two consolation prizes for the 4th and 5th pairs, each participant receiving CAD 200.
4. Rules and expected timeline:
- Students can choose to submit their works in either English or French.
- August 20 – September 17, 2014 (Vietnam time): Eligible students register at www.duhoc-canada.vn/a-z to participate in Round 1 of the “Explore Canada from A to Z” Competition 2014.
- September 24 – October 5, 2014 (Vietnam time): 10 best pairs of students in Vietnam and in Canada selected from Round 1 will enter Round 2.
- October 11, 2014 (Vietnam time): Winner announcement and prize granting ceremony is held at the Canada Education Fair in Ho Chi Minh City.
Round 1: Essay writing (August 20 – September 17, 2014)
Contestants in both Vietnam and Canada are requested to register at www.duhoc-canada.vn/a-z.
Contestants in Vietnam are requested to write 3 short essays in English or French, each having a maximum of 150 words, one on each of the following three topics: culture, education, and career prospects. The essays are to focus on the theme “Exploring Canada’s culture while experiencing Canada’s education to enhance your career prospects”.
Contestants in Canada are requested to write an essay (from 400 to 500 words) in English or French about their study experience in Canada and how the knowledge they have gained in Canada has been helping them or will support their lives and future careers.
Contestants are encouraged to visit www.duhoc-canada.vn and www.educationau-incanada.ca to get ideas for their essays.
All contestants must submit their complete essays online, using their registered IDs by 23:00, September 17, 2014 (Vietnam time).
Names of 20 contestants (10 from Vietnam and 10 from Canada) with best essays to be eligible to enter Round 2 will be announced on www.duhoc-canada.vn/a-z. These 20 candidates will be paired randomly with each pair consisting of one student from Vietnam and one student from Canada. If candidates wish to be paired with specific ones, they have to inform the Organizer at the beginning of the competition who they want to be paired with for Round 2 given that these candidates are qualified to continue with Round 2.
Round 2 : Movie production (September 24 – October 5, 2014)
Each pair of students is requested to work together to create an artful, interesting and relevant short movie (video clip) to reflect the theme of the competition “Exploring Canada’s culture while experiencing Canada’s education to enhance your career prospect”. The two students must show their faces while speaking English or French in the movies.
Each video must be minimum 5 minutes long and should not exceed 10 minutes. Contestants are encouraged to use any tool or software to create the best videos. Videos must be uploaded on www.duhoc-canada.vn/a-z by 23:00 October 5, 2014 (Vietnam time).
Final results of the competition will be announced on www.duhoc-canada.vn/a-z and informed to the winners.
5. Evaluation criteria:
Evaluation of essays is based on contestants’ excellent English/French writing skill, content, creative thinking, and knowledge about Canada.
Evaluation of video clips is based on contestants’ excellent English/French speaking skill, movies’ relevant content, creativity, and artful cinematography.
6. Requirements and conditions:
6.1 The essays and movies must be original and are unpublished works that do not contain, incorporate or use any content, material or element that is owned by a third party or entity. If there is any intellectual property violation, contestants’ products and prizes will not be recognized and be cancelled.
6.2 The essays and movies must not contain any content, material, or element that is not appropriate to the Vietnamese habits and customs and to the competition’s theme and spirit.
6.3 The essays and movies are of the Organizer’s ownership.
6.4 Contestants are responsible for providing complete and correct personal information including names, ID numbers or passport numbers, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers. E-mail addresses may be collected, processed, stored and used by the Organizer for the purpose of conducting and administering the competition.
6.5 The winners must meet all the visa requirements. The Organizer does not assume any responsibility for the visa fees or visa application and travel insurance of the winners as well as personal expenses during their trips to Canada.
6.6 In case the winners in Vietnam are not able to conduct the trips to Canada for any reason, the prizes will therefore be given to the runners-up.
6.7 The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for the winners in Vietnam cannot be transferred or redeemed into cash.
6.8 Employees of the marketing agency that co-ordinates the competition and their relatives are NOT eligible to participate in this competition.
6.9 The Organizer reserves the rights to disqualify any contestant from the competition if, in our sole discretion, it is reasonably believed that the contestant has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of the contest by cheating, deception, unfair competition, or annoying, abusing, threatening or harassing any other contestant or the Organizer.
6.10 If for any reason the competition cannot be carried out as planned, the Organizer reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition.

6.11 The Organizer will not assume any responsibility for any claimed cost, loss or injury occurred during the competition or in the process of conducting the trips to Canada.
6.12 Please read the terms and conditions above carefully before registering for the competition. This is considered as the legal agreement between the contestants and the Organizer. Being a contestant of this competition means that you acknowledge to have read, understood and agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions of this competitio
