Bradley Quinn has created a wearable tech hackathon specially for OCAD U students that will be run with Marie O’Mahony. While a hackathon is typically a weekend event, here participants will work over a single afternoon working in small teams responding to a wearable tech brief. Teams will be encouraged to develop strategies for advancing wearable technologies, rather than come up with a prototype. By thinking about how to make clothing that can connect to the web and provide a communication interface, for example, the
participants will have to consider a range of materials and technologies to use. They will also have to anticipate consumer expectations and face the challenges of laundering wearable tech and providing technical support after the garment has been sold. The wearable tech hackathon will encourage entrepreneurial thinking and enable participants to share skills and highlight the growing significance of code within the design disciplines.

Bradley Quinn is a strategist within the fashion industry who advises brands such as Adidas, The North Face and Timberland on emerging technologies. With expertise in wearable technology, Bradley Quinn has researched and published several books on the subject. Following his recent event
series at some of Apple’s European stores, Bradley is holding a hackathon-type workshop at OCAD U for young designers ready to strategise the wearable future.
