- OCAD University will power down for Earth Hour
On Saturday, March 28, OCAD University will power down for one hour starting at 8:30 p.m., as part of Earth Hour 2015. To support the extended building hour access, OCAD U will begin to close at 5:00 pm with the exception of the Sharp Centre for Design (100 McCaul), 60 McCaul, and Graduate Gallery (at 205 Richmond) at 7:30pm. OCAD U will re-open at noon on Sunday, March 29.
For more information about Earth Hour please visit the Earth Hour website.
OCAD University will turn off all lights and power-down all non-essential equipment in order to maximize the impact in reducing energy consumption. This event is one of many campus initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption and lowering greenhouse emissions, including the auto-shutoff of info common computers at night, replacing lightbulbs from T-12 to T-8 and most recently the installation of an energy Harmonizer at 100 McCaul.
**Remote Application Access / VPN access during Earth Hour
While all staff and faculty are encouraged to turn off their computers each evening to save energy, OCAD U recognizes that some staff may wish to access departmental networked applications and database systems through the OCAD U VPN (virtual private network) to work remotely from home during the weekend of Earth Hour. IT Services would like to remind you that your OCAD U computer must be left ON in order for you to access specific departmental networked applications and databases using the OCAD U VPN. Questions related to Remote Desktop or VPN access may be directed to the IT Helpdesk, IThelp@ocadu.ca or Ext. 277.
Please let me know if you have any concerns and we welcome your feedback on how OCAD U can continue to develop a unique institutional response and a meaningful engagement with this global initiative.
