The 2021 Plaskett and Petry post-graduate awards in painting applications are now open. These awards are open to Canadian visual artists in the field of painting who have been accepted in an MFA program, who are currently in an MFA program, or who have graduated from their MFA program within the last 12 months.

Each year, the Plaskett Award recipient receives $30,000 to live, travel, and create artwork for at least 6 months in Europe (including the UK), while the Petry Award recipient receives $10,000 to live, travel, and create for at least 2 months. As the current COVID-19 pandemic situation continues to evolve, the Joe Plaskett and Nancy Petry Foundations are flexible regarding when the stay in Europe will take place: it will be possible to postpone the stay to a later date, when public health guidelines permit international travel again and when the general situation in Europe will allow for an enriching experience, as Mr. Plaskett would have wished.

As in previous years, an online application portal on our website allows candidates to submit their application. Candidates may submit their applicationĀ by the deadline of May 1, 2021, whereas referees are asked to submit reference letters by email by May 8, 2021.

More information is available on the application page here.

If you have questions, please reach out to us on social media (Joe Plaskett Foundation) or contact application@joeplaskett.com.

Continuing the new approach set in place last year, our jury will be composed of three artists from Western, Central and Eastern Canada, in an effort to accurately represent the variety of viewpoints in Canadian painting. The members of the 2021 jury will be revealed in July, once the selection process has been completed.
