Hello,

We hope this message finds you well.

We are excited to share the preliminary program of Modernisms, Inside & Out, the 4th conference of the Canadian Women Artists History Initiative (CWAHI), taking place online over Zoom from 30 September – 2 October 2021. Please find the PDF version of the program attached.

This conference is a collaboration between Concordia University, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and Ryerson University’s Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre. Timed to coincide with the exhibition Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Momentthe conference focuses on women’s place within modernism as an aesthetic style, modernity as a new mode of existence, and modernization as the force of transformation that brought both about.

Artists, scholars, curators, and archivists will address the questions: how did the visual and material cultures of Canadian women position them inside and out of the modern? And how does the art that women made turn modernism inside-out?
We hope that you’ll join us in these conversations. Following your registration, a complete version of the program, including abstracts, bios, and Zoom links, will be sent to you in mid-September.

Please forward this email, the program, and/or the registration link to anyone who might be interested in attending. Thank you.

Warm regards,

CWAHI Conference Team
