The OCAD Zine Library Gets French!

Did you know that the OCAD Zine Library has French and bilingual zines? Mais oui! This is Canada, after all, et le français est l’une de nos langues officielles! (That’s “and French is one of our official languages,” for the Anglophones out there.)

On display right now in the Learning Zone is a selection of French and bilingual zines (pictured below). This is a great opportunity to widen your understanding of the Canadian experience! Even if you can’t read French, comics are a fun way to learn a new language — or even just to ingest some of the culture — because of how much they use images and other non-textual methods of communication.

If you can’t make it down in time for the display, ne vous inquiétez pas! Here’s a list of French and bilingual zines in our collection. As always, if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the Learning Zone, ask for help! That’s what we’re here for, after all.

Zine Workshop Series: Screen-Printing

Screen printingLast Wednesday, E. Howey, along with assistants Sab Meynert and Marta Chudolinska, demonstrated awesome screen-printing techniques for producing zines, t-shirts, posters and other applications.

Come to the LZ to look at the handy zine which was used in the workshop. It is available in our Zine Library collection. It is a great reference  to guide you through your next DIY screen-printing project.

Here are a few picture highlights from the screen-printing workshop held at the Learning Zone.

Vintage Valentine

That’s right, it’s time for another vintage sale from your friendly neighbourhood library! Purses, bangles, beads, and more — the Vintage Valentine’s Sale is a great place to pick up a present for your sweetheart, or a little something for yourself (or both!).

Running from 9-5 this Tuesday and Wednesday in the lobby of the main building, this is an event you can’t miss. Come on down, bring your friends, and celebrate St. Valentine in style with the Dorothy H. Hoover library!

The Vintage Valentine’s Sale is a fundraising event for the Ontario chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America. ARLIS/NA is a professional association of librarians, archivists, curators, and other specialists who work in the field of art information. ARLIS/NA’s mission is to support and enrich their member libraries and, through them, YOU, the artist! That means everything you take home from one of the Library’s vintage fundraising sales is a double whammy! So help us help you, and check out our wares this February 12 & 13.
