What’s new this week at the LZ

The Learning Zone is happy to announce our Fall/Winter 2018/2019 term. We will be open Monday to Thursdays from 9 am – 9 pm; Friday’s, 9 am – 6 pm and Saturdays, 1 – 6 pm. We are closed on Sundays and all Statutory holidays.

What’s new this week at the LZ? Research Wednesday kicks off this week with a visit from Danielle Manning, Outreach Officer from Archives of Ontario. Danielle will present highlights from the Archives of Ontario’s extensive photography collection. Danielle will be sharing highlights from the collection which showcase the work of government, amateur and professional photographers. You will take away an understanding of how the Archive’s photography collections are managed and preserved which supports the understanding of Ontario’s past.

Research Wednesday October 3

Research Wednesdays is a speaker series presented by the OCAD U Library. It’s a forum for anyone to present in a supportive environment. Interested in presenting at Research Wednesdays? Creative Workshop Series 2018

This a call for student workshop leaders: Creative Art & Design Workshops application deadline is October 3!

Student-led creative workshop series returns to the Learning Zone for another year. Our motto is If you know something…teach something! It’s great opportunity for you to develop valuable teaching experience while providing hands-on skill-building and community building for OCAD U students. https://bit.ly/2DQBTBd

Please submit a completed copy of this workshop proposal to Marta Chudolinska, Learning Zone Librarian, at mchudolinska@ocadu.ca by October 3rd, 2018. Download the Workshop Proposal template file available on this page.

This workshop series is presented in partnership by the OCAD U Library and the Writing & Learning Centre and supported by funding Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program (OPAIP) administered by the WLC.

Fall 2015 @ Library Services Learning Zone

The fall term will nearly be over, I know it’s hard to believe! Wednesday December 9 will be the last day of fall term classes with final examination and critique period beginning December 10 ending December 18.

It’s sad but true, the Learning Zone will be closed after December 18 but returning reinvigorated January 8—with a new year of programs and events.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves—we are still open for the next few weeks. The Learning Zone offers a place to study, access to computers, a light box for tracing, B&W and colour printing, and a colour matcher light booth to help you visualize how colours will appear under different conditions. You can also use it to document your artwork.

IT Salon every Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

IT Salon with Andrew McAllister, an Adobe Educator Leader with a background in art and design will be in the Learning Zone Tuesday December 8 and Thursday December 10, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm to share his knowledge and expertise on using Adobe Creative Cloud. How wonderful is that?

Feminism FOMO NOMO Art Exhibition; Show What Feminism Means to You. Call for Submissions Nov 3. Exhibition dates: Nov 10 - Dec 6 2015

Feminist FOMO NOMO has been extended until December 9, if you have not had the opportunity to see this exhibition, please drop in to catch this diverse multi-disciplinary collection of artwork which focuses on the question: What does feminism mean to you?

Xpace: External Space: Flash Splash by Eli Schwanz. On until February 15, 2016

Xpace Cultural Centre current exhibition in External Space is a video called Flash Splash made by Toronto artist Eli Schwanz.

Flash Space is an infinite loop of RGB image sequencing, displaying repetitive motion of abstract shapes—waves, drops and splashes. Additive colours blend and mix together. Teamed with a tonal droning soundtrack layered with dripping, splashing, and sloshing water. Please read this insightful exhibition essay by Fan Wu. On until February 15, 2016.

OCAD U Zine Collective meets in Learning Zone every 1st or 3rd Thursday at 12 pm

Get excited about September!

GROCAD Windowfarm in the Learning Zone

It’s a wrap! Summer semester is over and we at Library Services Learning Zone are looking ahead to welcoming back students and faculty when we open for the Fall/Winter Semester.

The Learning Zone recently celebrated its 5th Anniversary with the launch of the ReUse Depot, networking across campus to promote the Re-using, Re-claiming, Re-purposing, and Re-cycling art & design materials.

At the Learning Zone, the promotion of exchange and sustainability is embraced through the support for Plate Station, OCAD Seed Library, and GrOCAD.

In addition, the Learning Zone contains a growing OCAD Zine Library collection, eclectic multi-platform magazine Visionaire, Design Annuals, XPACE Cultural Centre: External Space and Career Services Resume/CV Drop-in Clinics.

Visit us to study, collaborate, or fuel your imagination.

Holiday break at the Learning Zone!

Library Services Learning Zone from St. Patricks Street

The Learning Zone will be on Holiday Break beginning Monday December 15, reopening January 5, 2015 with our regular hours of operation:

Winter Semester

January 5 – April 20, 2015

Monday to Thursday 9am to 9pm

Friday, 9am to 6pm

Saturday & Sunday, 12 -5pm

Closed

Monday February 16 (Family Day)

Friday April 3 (Good Friday)

We are already excited about 2015!  The Learning Zone will introduce several new initiatives, host creative workshops and exhibits, nurture grOCAD’s organic installations, and introduce a new OCAD U document printing system, Follow-You Print.
