Thank you for your interest in becoming an undergraduate Peer Mentor—a friend or “buddy”—to a new incoming undergraduate student and supporting them online or via email through summer and fall 2021 in OCAD U’s Student Mentor Program!

These pages are required reading/viewing as the online component of your training, support and preparation.

TO BECOME A 2021/2022 PEER MENTOR, FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

STEP 1: Apply!

Review the details and then complete and submit the online Peer Mentor Application.
Students interested in becoming Peer Mentors must have satisfactory academic standing, consistently achieving a minimum of 60% each session.

Deadline to apply: Friday, April 16, 2021.


STEP 2: “Meet” and discuss your interest!

In-person, group or one-to-one meetings are currently suspended due to COVID-19 and OCAD U temporary closure.

Apply and watch your OCAD U email for confirmation of receipt of your application and opportunity to schedule a Microsoft Teams meeting to discuss your interest.

Deadline to meet: Friday, April 23, 2021


STEP 3: Review these Peer Mentor Principles pages!

Navigate the pages of this blog in order, using the links in the top banner. Review the content on each page (20 to 30 minutes each), complete the AODA modules (if you haven’t already in another capacity) and then complete the brief Module 1 and Module 2 “Apply your Knowledge” quizzes. Feel free to review this information anytime!

Deadline to complete modules: Friday, June 4, 2021

AODA
If you have not yet completed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) training (in another capacity on- or off-campus), you are responsible for completing Module 03 as well.


STEP 4: Live support/training workshops

In addition to the online modules (Step 3), new Peer Mentors are required to attend/participate in additional support and training workshops* on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

* In-person if possible or remote/online, dependent on pandemic situation.

NOTE: the In-Person Support/Training Day is always scheduled the first business day immediately following Formal Assessment Period for winter term (which, in 2021, is Tuesday, April 13 to Monday, April 26).
