Call for Submissions: OCAD U Photo Students & Recent Alumni

For the first time, photography majors at OCAD University and Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts will collaborate for the inaugural Art Camp Residency in downtown Toronto. Led by core faculty Robyn Cumming, Jennifer Long, and Marc Losier, a select group of students from OCAD U and the School of Image Arts will participate in events, workshops, talks, and portfolio reviews, leading towards a group exhibition of new work at the Ryerson Artspace at the Gladstone Hotel next Fall 2015.

Applicants will be selected on their artistic merit, availability during summer months, and interest in collaboration.

Application Checklist: In one PDF or Dropbox link, include the following:

  1. Applicant information:
  • Name
  • University and current year of study/year of graduation
  • Preferred email address
  • Confirmation of your availability to work on a body of work from May to October with the selected team. This will involve 1 to 3 meetings per month and self-directed art creation.
  1. A letter of Intent (max. 400 words), addressing why you are interested in this residency and what inspires your practice.
  2. Portfolio of work
  • Include 10 images from 2 to 3 different series. If your work is time-based, please contact Jennifer Long at jlong@faculty.ocadu.ca to discuss options.
  • Embedded images should be approximately 8”x10”, 72 dpi
  • Include an image credit under each visual. This should include the title, year, medium and scale.

Email the completed PDF or Dropbox link to jlong@faculty.ocadu.ca before May 5th, 12 noon. A jury will be struck to review the applications and applicants will be notified by May 18th of their acceptance.

Summer Course: Artist Residency

An amazing and very unique summer course you should know about!
Artist Residency  Gibraltar Point: A Living Laboratory (CROS 3003)

May 2015: This half credit course runs Tuesdays and Thursday 8:30am to 2:30pm starting May 19th  with a week residency from May 23-30th . This is a cross-disciplinary studio based course (CROS 3003) and registration is open to all third  and fourth year students.

The Toronto Island  park is a 230 hectares of unique and diverse Carolinea forest with a small community of 750 residence, located minutes from downtown Toronto.  Students taking this course will live and work  for one week at the Artscape Gibraltar Point Arts Centre.  Students interested  in finding out more about this unique opportunity should come to the Information session on.  April 14th at 4:00 pm in Room 258

Entry Details & Agreement:

  • There is no theme to this call – we want you to review your work and select what you think best represents your practice! Students from ANY year are welcome to submit their work.
  • Each student can submit a maximum of 3 ready-to-hang/framed image,
    no larger than 20” x 24”.
  • On the back, lower-right corner of your art, please clearly print the following: Name, title, year, medium, phone number & email (Tag forms will be available at: designphotoroom254.wordpress.com)
  • A standard OCAD U release form must be filled out with all submissions. This can be found at designphotoroom254.wordpress.com or available at room 254 when dropping off your artwork.
  • All students who submit a piece must be willing to volunteer their time to assist with the installation, opening night prep, take down or other related needs.
  • All work must be submitted to Nicole Torres in room 254 before Friday, April 24th at 3pm. Please wrap your work so it can be safely stored until the installation begins. Nicole can be reached at ntorres@faculty.ocadu.ca
  • All students must be available or make arrangements to have their work removed from the walls, packaged, and picked up on May 31st/June 1st.
  • Please note: this is a curated exhibition. Students whose work is not accepted will be contacted by May 7th.
